6-year old Boy Forced to Sign Father's Burial Permit in Kirinyaga County

Drama unfolded at a funeral ceremony in Kirinyaga County on Wednesday after mourners returned the body of the deceased to the mortuary until his six-year-old son signed his burial permit.

The mourners insisted that the late Nicholas Muriuki's sister who had earlier on signed the permit had no right to do so.

"There is no way a married woman can come and sign the burial permit for Muriuki while his son is alive. The body must be taken back to the mortuary until we trace the whereabouts of the minor," a resident argued.

The boy was nowhere to be found as he had been kept in hiding by his estranged mother who was reportedly separated from his father.

Area Chief Immaculate Njoka was forced to bring in armed policemen to restore order t the function before the body was taken back to the mortuary.

The boy was however traced at around 4:30 pm when he was taken to the mortuary where he made a thumbprint impression on the document since he could not sign.

Muriuki died on 11th May after he was hit by a vehicle transporting miraa along Embu-Mwea road.

His remains were laid to rest at around 5:30 pm shortly after his son had signed his burial permit.
