North Mugirango MP Charles Mongare's Daughter Accuses Him of Using Police to End Her Relationship

The daughter of North Mugirango Member of Parliament Charles Mong’are on Friday caused a stir in court after being linked to Somali-based Al Shabaab group.

Erisiana Sabiri surprised the court after revealing that the MP had colluded with the anti-terror police to have her charged in order to end a relationship with her boyfriend, Ahmed Salim Lali.

Speaking through lawyer Wilson Nadwa, Sabiri disclosed that Mong'are was opposed to her engagement to Lali because he was a Muslim.

The couple was arrested on Thursday and arraigned before Magistrate Martha Mutuku on allegations of engaging in terrorism activities.

“The father of the girl is a politician and he is just using the ATPU to instil discipline into her and the potential son-in-law. The MP could not believe that she has fallen in love with a Muslim boy,” stated the lawyer.

The two university graduates are said to have been living together in South C estate, an arrangement the MP was uncomfortable with.

However, investigators maintained that Sabiri and Lali had been engaging in terror-related activities and were in communication with the militants.

“We intend to charge them with offences under the Prevention of Terrorism Act. They are suspected to be planning and collecting information for the purpose of facilitating terrorism activities,” the police stated.

The suspects were remanded until Monday for investigations to be concluded.

At the same time, the judge ordered the lawmaker to appear before the court to respond to the allegations of using the authorities to oppose her daughter's relationship.
