8 Presidential Candidates to Present Nomination Papers to IEBC on Sunday and Monday

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has locked out 10 Presidential candidates from the August 2017 General Election.

The revelation was made on Saturday morning after it the polls body released the final list of candidates set to present their nominations papers.

Reports indicate that the ten were locked out for failing to meet the minimum threshold required including a list of signatures of voters supporting their bids. 

The contenders, most of who are independents include; Nazlin Umar, Pete Odeng, Michael Orenge, Muthiora Kariara, Japhet Kavinga, Stephen Owoko Oganga, Peter Solomon Gichira, Erastus Nyamera, Kennedy Mong'are and David Munga.

However, four of the candidates including Mong'are, Odeng, Munga and Muthiora had already dropped out of the race.

The polls body has approved eight candidates who will submit their papers to the IEBC on Sunday, May 28 and Monday, May 29 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

They are incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta (Jubilee Party), ODM's Raila Odinga, Mohammed Abduba Dida of the Alliance for Real Change, Ekuru Aukot of Thirdway Alliance Kenya, Justus Juma of the Justice and Freedom Party, Cyrus Jirongo of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and two independent candidates, Joseph Nyagah and Michael Wainaina Mwaura.

Mr Odinga, Dida, Juma and Aukot will submit their papers on Sunday while Kenyatta, Nyagah, Jirongo and Wainaina present theirs on Monday.
