IEBC Rejects Presidential Aspirant Justus Juma's Papers for Being Seconded by Jubilee

A Presidential aspirant seeking clearance to contest in the August election was on Monday morning turned back after the IEBC discovered that the signature seconding his candidature belonged to a Jubilee Party member.

While making the announcement at the KICC, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati stated that Mr Justus Juma had presented an unsigned list of supporters and his proposer belonged to the Jubilee Party.

Chebukati added that Juma’s degree together with that of his deputy had also not been certified.

He was given six hours to rectify the anomaly.

Mr Juma joins another aspirant, Joseph Nyagah, who was also turned back on Sunday for failing, together with his running mate, to present a signed code of conduct as required.

The IEBC chair, however, gave him the opportunity to seek clearance once again on Monday when five other candidates are scheduled to appear before the Commission.

He is yet to present the papers afresh.

Meanwhile, the IEBC has already cleared Third Way Alliance candidate Ekuru Aukot, Alliance of Real Change party presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida and National Super Alliance( NASA) candidate Raila Odinga.

Mr Dida had to resubmit his papers also after initially failing to present a certified copy of his degree and a self-declaration form signed by a commissioner of oaths.

Chebukati had given Dida until 4 pm Sunday, to certify his paperwork in order to be cleared by the commission for the presidential race.

He was later cleared.
