Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho Vows to Stop SGR Launch by President Uhuru Keyatta

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho has threatened to stop the launch of the Standard Gauge Railway claiming that massive public funds had been lost through corruption.

The governor gave the president an ultimatum to account for the extra Sh100 Billion that had been sunk into the project failure to which he would expose him.

“The project was to cost not more than Sh200 Billion but the Jubilee government is telling us it has cost more than Sh300 Billion. We deserve answers before the launch," the Governor said.

Speaking in Siaya County, the Mombasa Governor accused the president of presiding over corruption and vowed to storm the launch "as has happened before".

In the recent past, Joho has been confronting the President and his deputy, accusing them of launching fake projects and corruption.

This has seen him locked out of many presidential functions.

“If they think they are going to get away with the SGR, the same way they got away with NYS after swindling our money, they are daydreaming,” he said.

This declaration has set the stage for another showdown between Joho and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The president is scheduled to launch the Standard Gauge Railway on Wednesday, making a maiden trip from Mombasa to Nairobi.
