New Students Behind Unrest in Schools - Report

A special investigations team appointed by the Ministry of Education has proposed new measures regarding the transfer of students from one school to another.

This is after it was established that most of the cases of arson and student unrest in schools were triggered by students who had transferred from other schools.

The task force suggested conducting of proper background checks by school heads before accepting any new students because some of them had been expelled from their previous schools due to gross misconduct.

"...background checks would have enabled the school administrators to manage the deviant behaviour appropriately. Transfers should be sanctioned by the relevant offices as per the prevailing guidelines including disclosure of students character," reads part of the report.

It was also revealed that most schools releasing students failed to truthfully disclose reasons for transfer as they quickly wanted to get rid of their unruly students.

If the report is implemented, transferring from one school to another will face thorough scrutiny and records of students will be tracked back to primary school.

Cases of student unrest have been on the rise over the years, with students citing bullying, bad food, strict rules and sodomy among the causes.

Principals who 'poach' students from other schools to boost performance in sports have also been warned and risk dire punishments if caught.
