Politicians the world over, amuse and insult their listeners in equal measure with the boldfaced and often mindless statements that they make.
Kenyan politicians have also made their fair share of unexpected remarks in the public domain, most of them before the introduction of the strict Hate Speech legislation.
Here are some of these controversial statements:

President Uhuru Kenyatta
President Uhuru Kenyatta hurled a brutal insult at Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok calling him a fool and a devil right to his face.
The Governor had just publicly accused the President of allocating the county insufficient funds during a ceremony where both leaders were present.
"Mtu akisimama hapa aseme ati Uhuru ako na haja na mafuta ya wengine…ashindwe..shetani mshenzi! (How can someone stand here and accuse Uhuru of stealing oil belonging to other people? Defeated foolish devil!)," the angry President retorted.

Moses Kuria
Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria made news recently when he was caught on camera hurling an insult at NTV reporter Kennedy Muriithi.
"I am tired of the stupid media. Everything wrong that happens in this country is blamed on Moses Kuria," he barked then uttered the f*** word before walking out on the reporter.
The politician had been asked to comment on the difficulties being experienced by his constituents.

In 2013, Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko insulted former Radio Host Caroline Mutoko during a call-in interview that was live on the Kiss FM morning show.
"You! How many people f*** you? Wewe nyege zako na sigara zako peleka huko Carnivore (take your lusts and smoking to Carnivore)," Senator Sonko blurted out.
The then newly-elected Senator had been agitated by the journalist's pressing question over his generosity with cash dished out to the needy.

William Kabogo
Kiambu Governor William Kabogo is accused of having made the most insensitive remarks on women of his county.
Among some of the things he is reported to have said is insulting the husbands of the women by flashing his money at them.
"Women, I will give you Sh400, Sh200 for a biker and Sh200 for panties because your husband's can't afford that for you," he is reported to have said at one time.
"Between me and that pauper (Waititu),whom can you trust with your daughter? I can treat your daughters by giving them money. But I am a man, I can't take a hen and it's eggs (meaning he is rich)," he allegedly remarked in another incident.
The politician has since expressed that he would like to put some of these sentiments behind him.

Kiraitu Murungi
"It is like raping a woman who is already too willing."
Meru County Senator Kiraitu Murungi made the statement during his tenure as Justice Minister in 2005.
He was arguing out a case involving donors who were putting undue pressure on the government to deal with numerous corruption scandals.
