Angry Youth Burn Jubilee Posters in Kisii Ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's Tour

Angry youth believed to be supporters of the National Super Alliance (NASA) on Monday night burned Jubilee party campaign materials in Kisii.

The protesters singled out Jubilee posters and burnt them ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's tour of the region on Tuesday.

The group created a standstill in the town after they temporarily blocked major roads that include the Capital Hotel roundabout where they burnt the posters on the tarmac causing a traffic jam.

While singing NASA slogans, the group vowed to give President Kenyatta a hostile reception during his visit in the region.

“We will not allow the President to come here and feed us with Jubilee propaganda yet we are unable to afford three meals a day because of the high price of maize flour.

“We are witnessing the price of basic commodities rising on an almost daily basis, yet our meagre earnings from business remain the same. What new thing can Jubilee offer us in terms of governance?” one of the protesters posed.

President Kenyatta will today begin a week-long meet-the-people tour that will see him visit Kisii, Nyamira, Kakamega, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu and Bungoma counties.

The Orange Democratic Movement Kisii Chairman, Kerosi Ondieki noted that the Presidential tour was inconsequential as Kisii was a NASA zone and would fully support Opposition leader Raila Odinga's presidential bid.

“We are not bothered by Jubilee’s attempts to campaign in this region since they will definitely fail to capture the hearts and minds of the voters.

“We are looking forward to increasing Raila's tally in the county that gave him 68 percent of the total votes in the last general election. Our target for his presidential bid is 90 percent of the votes cast,” Mr Kerosi stated.

The visit to the counties of South Nyanza, Western and Rift Valley regions come immediately after a tour of Nyandarua, Laikipia and Nakuru counties.
