Two Children Burn to death in Shauri Moyo Explosion

Two children were burnt to death as a fire swept through a section of informal settlements in Shauri Moyo Estate in Nairobi.

Police believe that the fire was caused by an explosion of a burning stove in the house where the children were.

The two children had allegedly been left alone in the house with the stove lit.

The parents of the children aged 2 and 5 years were not at home at the time of the incident which happened on Monday night.

Firefighters from the County Government did not arrive on time, giving the raging fire the time to spread to adjacent structures.

A section of the residents, whose houses were razed down, had to spend the night in the cold as they counted their losses following the incident.

Rescue efforts were also hampered by limited access due to the narrow alleys in the area, with residents in frantic efforts to contain the fire.

Following the incident and a few others reported in the past, parents have been advised to attend to their children or leave them in the care of a responsible adult.
