President Uhuru Kenyatta Attends Rally at Masimba High School in Kisii

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday went against an order issued by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i regarding political meetings.

During his tour of Kisii County, Kenyatta attended a political rally held at Masimba High School despite the CS's directive restricting holding of rallies in learning institutions.

The meeting was held by a section of the Kisii leaders allied to the Jubilee Party led by area Senator Chris Obure, who will vie for the gubernatorial seat in the August 8 Election.

During the meeting, President Kenyatta handed over Sh358 Million for compensation of integrated IDPs, who lost homes and property in the 2007/08 post-election violence.

The Head of State later headed to Gusii Stadium where hundreds of residents flocked waiting for his arrival.

He will traverse Kisii and Nyamira counties as he seeks to woo the vote-rich region, which has slowly been drifting away from the Opposition with several area leaders joining Jubilee.

A month ago, the Cabinet Secretary warned against the use of school property including grounds and buses for political purposes.

Mataing'i, while addressing school heads, cautioned against disrupting learning programmes by allowing political rallies in learning institutions.

He further directed school children not to be used to entertain guests during such rallies.
