High Court Orders for the Arrest of Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua

Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua is facing arrest over accusations that he and two other senior officials refused to pay county ex-workers.

The High Court on Thursday issued an arrest warrant against the Governor and the two County officials for failing to appear in Court to show cause why they should not be committed to civil jail.

Justice Monica Mbaru of the Employment and Labour Relations Court stated that summonses were issued against Governor Mbugua and County Secretary Joseph Mogusi after they disobeyed a court order requiring them to pay wages owed to former employees.

Justice Mbaru also issued an arrest warrant to Mr Joseph Mbugua who is a member of the Nakuru County Public Service Board for failing to comply with the summons issued by the court on June 5, 2017.

The High Court Judge ordered Nakuru Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) to speedily arrest the three and deliver them to the court on or before June 13, 2017.

The Governor and the two officials were sued by Jackson Kimani, Daniel Kingori, Benjamin Kimengich, David Kirimi and Hassan Bagaja for failing to make payments to them even after their dismissal was ruled unlawful.

Last weeked, Governor Kinuthia made headlines after he quit his re-election bid in favor of Nakuru Jubilee nominee Lee Kinyanjui.

Reports indicated that he withdrew from the race after meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy William Ruto during their Nakuru tour.
