Opposition Leader Raila Odinga will be holding a Sh10 Million a plate dinner as was done by his rival President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday last week.
According to sources, the former Prime Minister together with his National Super Alliance (NASA) Principals are planning a dinner that is expected to raise at least Sh1 Billion that will be channelled to their campaign kitty.
In the dinner, those sitting at the platinum high table next to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader will pay Sh10 Million a plate.
Gold donors will pay Sh5 Million a plate and silver donors Sh3 Million a plate which will see them take seats further away from the high table.
Sources privy to the dinner arrangements stated that it would bring together business tycoons, private sector players, civil society personalities, politicians and professionals from the 47 counties together with NASA campaign leaders.
“We will not be receiving cash. Those attending will be expected to come only with bank payment slips as proof of payment,” a source stated.
In 2013, the Opposition Chief hosted a similar dinner where guests paid a minimum Sh1 Million. Some of the notable personalities who attended the 2013 dinner included; Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Attorney General Charles Njonjo, Karim Popat of Simba Colt and Tabitha Karanja of Keroche Breweries.
Sources close to the NASA leadership indicate that the funds raised at the dinner would go into logistics including paying salaries, transport, office rent, among others.
Last week President Kenyatta hosted a similar dinner where he raised approximately Sh500 Million in two hours.
His (Uhuru) dinner brought together business tycoons and top government officials at the Safari Park Hotel and Casino in Nairobi.
