President Uhuru Kenyatta to Concede Defeat if Defeated in August General Election

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday revealed that he was ready to concede defeat if voted out after the August 8 General Election.

Speaking at the Eldoret State Lodge, President Kenyatta assured that he would relinquish power to enable a smooth and peaceful transition that all Kenyans deserve.

"If you the people, on August the 8th tell me you want a different leader, I would step aside and let my predecessor lead the country as I have tried to,” said Kenyatta.

The Head of State, however, urged all political players in the coming elections to pledge the same and respect the decision by the electorate through set institutions such as the IEBC.

“ Any attack upon the IEBC, is an attack upon an important pillar, the guardian of our democracy, we must have confidence in its operations,” noted Kenyatta.

He pinned that the electoral body was a critical pillar in the success of the coming polls maintaining that Kenyans deserve a democratic, free and fair election.

Speaking during an election preparedness forum at the KICC, National Super Alliance (NASA) principal Raila Odinga stated that in comparison to its predecessor, the IEBC was more responsive to the stakeholders.

Odinga, however, stated that the comparison was like comparing the good with the bad and was not enough.

Kenyans on social media, however, expressed mixed reactions to the President’s sentiments with some criticising the Jubilee administration.

#UhuruInEldoret A reminder to everyone preaching peace, we would never have fought in 2007 if the elections would have been free and fair
