2 Kenyans, 90 Somalis Deported From US

Two Kenyans and 90 Somali nationals are said to have been deported from the United States (US) just days after President Donald Trump took office.

The group is said to have arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Wednesday morning though details regarding why they were deported remained scanty.

Confirming the arrival, government Spokesman Eric Kiraithe said they were working on ferrying the Somali nationals to their country of origin.

“I don’t have details of their deportation but it is true there are 90 Somalis and two Kenyans who arrived at JKIA after deportation from the US,” said Kiraithe.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, an official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Diaspora department said they were not aware of the deportation since no communication had been given to them.

According to the official, they should have received details of the group from their US counterparts informing them about any deportations.

“We are not aware of any Kenyans being deported because we could have gotten a letter from our Mission on the other side giving us details of the two Kenyans,” stated the officer.

However, speculations were rife that the US government would have sent back the two who are said to be women due to Trump's policy of cracking down on illegal immigrants.

A local daily reported that US officials accompanying the group claimed they were deported as a result of Trump's policy.
