2 People Attacked in Garissa After Hateful Remarks Linked to Duale, Farah Maalim Says

Former MP Farah Maalim on Friday divulged that he had information of two people who have been attacked in Garissa following the hateful remarks linked to National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale.

Speaking at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi, the ex-Deputy speaker stated: "We have information right now that two people have already been attacked in Garissa."

Mr Maalim, together with other leaders from Garissa, demanded the police to carry out investigations on the inciteful remarks highlighting that it could spark violence in the country.

He further noted that he was keen to see if the Government would take action against Duale as it had done on leaders caught making inflammatory remarks.

"We want to see whether this government's stand on hate speech and incitement applies selectively," Maalim stated.

At the same time, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) Chairman Francis Ole Kaparo announced that the Commission would probe the clip supposedly capturing Duale calling for the eviction of Kamba voters from Garissa Town.

Meanwhile, the Majority Leader has dismissed the allegations stating: “An audio clip in circulation online is fake & crude propaganda. It's the work of a bygone era politician attempting to cook fake news.”
