2 Senior Government Officials Sacked Over 'Irresponsibilty'

Two senior officials in the Nairobi county government were yesterday fired over what is termed as absconding duty.

The Chief Finance Officer Jimmy Kiamba and the Head of Treasury Stephen Osiro received letters terminating their employment contracts effective Monday July 13, 2015.

The two are said to have “willingly neglected to perform their duties and responsibilities”, the Star reports.

Capital FM reports that Kiamba and Osoro paid millions of shillings for an ICT contract which was not fully undertaken, and further made another payment to two other firms for the same contract which did not yield the needed results.

The irregular payment reportedly led to the loss of Sh94 million.

The county secretary had on July 3, written to the duo to show cause why their employment contracts should not be terminated.

According to the contract termination letter the county government considered their response to the issues raised, at great length and found their responses unsatisfactory.

Meanwhile, the Director of audit Edward Gichana and 13 accountants have also received a show cause letter.

Kimba is also battling a court case in which the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is accusing him of stealing hundreds of millions of shillings from City Hall.

The anti-graft body claims Kiamba is living a life larger than his income and also that he owns an 'unjustifiable' empire.

According to EACC, Kiamba owns a town house in Kileleshwa, two maisonettes in South C, eight plots of land in Mavoko, Muthaiga and Machakos.

The embattled finance officer also owns a fleet of six cars as well as four apartments in Kilimani, despite gettting a monthly salary of Sh85, 000.

Kiamba however insisted that all his property is registered under Tracy Musau, his wife and Jimise Limited.
