Meru Leaders Warn President Uhuru Kenyatta to Be Wary of Support for NASA

A section of Meru leaders has warned President Uhuru Kenyatta that the region could abandon him and vote for the Opposition in the coming elections.

Led by the chairman of the Mt Kenya Caucus, Mr Linford Mutembei, the leaders warned the president not to take NASA flag bearer Raila Odinga's visit to the area for granted, warning that all is not well in the region.

“The President and Deputy President are being misled that all is well in the area when it clearly is not,” he said.

Igembe Central parliamentary aspirant James Linturi also accused the Jubilee Party of abandoning the region that voted overwhelmingly for Jubilee in the last General Election.

He warned that Odinga is likely to benefit from the government's failure to address challenges facing miraa farmers.

The leaders stated that the supremacy wars between Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi and Governor Peter Munya have resulted in more support for Odinga in a region that was presumed to be a Jubilee Party stronghold.

The warning comes as Raila is set to begin his vote hunt mission in the larger Meru County.

The region has been warming up to the Opposition with Governor Munya and Igembe South legislator Mithika Linturi warning that Jubilee could lose support in the area.

Last weekend, Murungi who is a close confidant of the president was booed as he attempted to sell the Jubilee agenda in the region. Chants of NASA rented the air when the charged crowd declined his calls to chant Jubilee Party slogans.
