The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has made two new decisions after National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga complained over the award of ballot papers printing tender.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Wednesday announced that he had invited all presidential candidates or their representatives to discuss issues raised concerning election preparedness.
Speaking during a press conference earlier in the day, Chebukati stated that the meeting would be held on Thursday following several complaints regarding the upcoming polls.
He further announced that the Commission would invite agents of presidential candidates, media representatives and other stakeholders to Dubai where the ballot papers are being produced.
IEBC stated that the team would leave next week to witness and monitor the production which is being done by Al Ghurair firm.
At the same time, the polls body expressed concerns with the “growing political rhetoric” which has raised political temperatures in the country.
The new decision came after the Opposition, led by the NASA flag bearer, criticised the IEBC for awarding the printing tender to the Dubai-based company against the advice of the court.
Odinga claimed that a team of Jubilee officials had held secret meetings with those of the firm raising concerns over the credibility of the August polls.
NASA leaders linked President Uhuru Kenyatta's brother, Muhoho Kenyatta to the company which is supposed to print 120 million ballot papers, election results forms and poll registers.
According to the Opposition, the firm had in the past three years been awarded other tenders by some Jubilee officials.
They called on IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and Director of Election Operations Immaculate Kasait to step aside claiming that they were the contacts between State House and the printing company.
