The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has invited the National Super Alliance (NASA) for a very important meeting this morning to discuss issues arising from the Sh2.5 Billion ballot papers printing tender.
IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati invited the five NASA principals through a letter to NASA Chief Executive Officer Norman Magaya.
The meeting is scheduled for 10:00 am and will be held at the commission's offices in Nairobi.
IEBC invited the opposition leaders for the meeting after their coalition stated that they were considering court action to block the Sh2.5 Billion contract awarded to Dubai-based Al Ghurair Printing & Publishing.
On Wednesday, NASA leaders led by former Vice-President Musalia Mudavadi indicated that they were exploring options because they believed that the electoral body would dismiss their demand to cancel tender.
"We are considering several options including court action," Siaya Senator James Orengo stated.
The NASA team also alleged that the company awarded the tender was linked to President Uhuru Kenyatta and accused Jubilee of using the tender as part of a rigging plot.
President Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto, however, dismissed the accusations stating that NASA was looking for excuses and spreading propaganda against the polls body.
“To my brother, Raila Odinga, please, start selling your agenda to Kenyans. Leave IEBC to do its work. The IEBC has no votes, it's Kenyans who have the votes,” Kenyatta stated.
DP Ruto on his part stated that Jubilee did not care which company won the tender stating that they would still win even if a Raila owned company would be awarded the tender.
“We want the IEBC to award the tender to any company, including Spectre International owned by Odinga’s family. Jubilee will still emerge victorious,” Ruto mentioned.
Meanwhile, the Commission is also expected to meet all Presidential aspirants or their representatives in a separate meeting where they would be briefed on the election preparations.
