Jubilee Will Not Send Agents to Monitor Printing of Ballot Papers - Raphael Tuju Declares

The Jubilee Party has rejected an offer by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to send its representatives to Dubai to monitor printing of ballot papers.

Speaking after a meeting with the polls body, Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju, who was representing President Uhuru Kenyatta, stated that his camp would not present anyone to accompany IEBC.

Tuju criticised the polls body accusing it of bowing to demands from the National Super Alliance (NASA) and responding to all it complains.

The Secretary General claimed that the IEBC was wasting time instead of concentrating on finalising preparation for the August General Election.

“We cannot have a situation where NASA makes false claims then the IEBC catches a cold and does everything to appease them. We are very disappointed with IEBC that when NASA says something they run around like headless chicken,” he stated.

He further added that Jubilee was not interested in the company given the ballot papers printing tender as has been claimed by the Opposition.

"We don't care who gets this contract. We will not take the offer by IEBC to do any inspection in Dubai. If NASA wants to boycott the elections let them boycott," affirmed Tuju.

The Commission had invited all presidential candidates or their representatives to a meeting to iron out the controversy surrounding the award of the Sh2.5 Billion printing tender to Dubai-based Al Ghurair Company.

IEBC also offered to send representatives and other stakeholders to Dubai to monitor the production of the ballot papers.
