ODM Youth Leader Benson Musungu Charged With Firing Illegal Firearm at Orange House

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) youth leader Mr Benson Musungu was yesterday arraigned in court to answer to multiple charges of illegal use of a firearm.

Mr Musungu was accused of having randomly fired shots as a crowd of protesters was protesting together with Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro at Orange House on April 5.

He was further accused of having been found in possession of 14 bullets and a forged firearm certificate document assigned to the assault weapon.

Milimani Court Magistrate Kenneth Cheruyiot, heard that the accused led a group of protesters to the ODM Party headquarters demanding to know why Ruaraka Member of Parliament TJ Kajwang had been given direct nomination.

The prosecution went on to accuse Mr Musungu of brandishing an illegal firearm and behaving disorderly by firing one shot in the air.

The ODM leader went on the run soon after the incident and had been on the police radar.

He denied charges and was released on a cash bail of Sh200,000 pending a hearing on July 25.
