ODM Aspirant Reveals How Police Pulled Down Banner and Forced People to Attend President Uhuru Kenyatta's Rally

An Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parliamentary aspirant has accused the police of pulling down his campaign banner ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta's visit last Wednesday.

Speaking to a local daily, Teso North parliamentary aspirant Lawi Mamai termed the action "barbaric".

He alleged that hours before President Kenyatta arrived, police officers from the General Service Unit (GSU) were deployed to pull down his banner from his Amagoro Centre office.

Mamai said that he views the actions "as a plot by my opponent to use security agencies to intimidate NASA (National Super Alliance) supporters."

The rally that was attended by the President in a region perceived to be an Opposition turf was not short of drama.

The ODM parliamentary aspirant claimed that to fill the empty venue at Amagoro Primary School, police officers harassed people at a nearby library and forced them to attend the rally.

"The same officers also harassed people at the nearby library and forced them to attend the rally.”

He further claimed that police forcefully ejected ODM party member Peter Ipara from the Jubilee rally that was addressed by President Kenyatta.

The aspirant said that he would lodge a formal complaint with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for appropriate action to be taken.
