13-year-old Girl Helps Father Snatch Gun From Armed Robber

A 13-year-old girl helped his father to snatch a gun from a burglar who had broken into their house in Kisumu's Kaila village.

The suspect broke into the house at around 9.30pm on Sunday and when he pointed the gun at the girl's father, the girl quickly jumped on him and wrestled him to the ground.

According to Kisumu County Commissioner Mohamed Maalim, her father joined in the tussle and as they fought, the burglar dropped his gun and fled.

"The father joined in the tussle to try and snatch the firearm from the burglar. Once overpowered, he dropped the firearm and escaped," Mr Maalim stated.

Police were quickly called to the scene and recovered the firearm which they claimed was stolen from an Administration Police camp in 2015.

The identities of the father and his daughter were however not released for security reasons, with police launching a manhunt for the suspect.

Cases of robberies have been on the rise in Kisumu and over the weekend, two suspected robbers were gunned down.

In Nairobi, 6 suspected thugs were shot dead in separate incidents in Nairobi and three pistols recovered.

Two were gunned down at Riruta, two others in Kayole while another two were killed in Soweto and Pangani area respectively.

This brings to 15 the number of suspected criminals shot dead in the last two weeks.
