Kirimoni Primary School in Samburu County Closed After Student Attack and Injure Teachers

A school in Samburu County was closed on Monday after pupils attacked and injured teachers.

Kirimoni Primary School pupils descended on their teachers with clubs and machetes protesting against punishment from female teachers.

They were reported to have injured two female teachers in the process.

Last week, eight children from various schools in Maseno, Kisumu County, were charged in court and sent to prison after they were found with crude weapons.

The eight were arrested on Friday night by patrol police officers after they were allegedly caught with knives and machetes.

The pupils claimed they were on their way to a teacher's funeral but could not explain what they were doing with the weapons.

Each child was slapped with a Sh100,000 bond and sureties of the same amount but their guardians could not afford to raise the money.

Some of the parents of the eight begged the court not to take their children back to the cells but their pleas bore no fruit.
