14 Dead, 60 People Missing as Boat Capsizes in Ndau, Lamu County

14 people have been confirmed dead and 60 others still missing after a boat they were travelling in capsized at Ndau Island in Lamu County.

Lamu West Deputy County Commissioner Louis Rono confirmed the incident stating that 16 people had been rescued so far and the whereabouts of at least 60 others was still unknown. 

The boat was traveling to Ndau from Lamu when it capsized.

Reports indicate that the accident could have been caused by heavy winds.

Rescue operations are still ongoing.

The Lamu incident comes only a few weeks after four people died in Lake Victoria.

In the incident, a man, his wife, and a six-month-old baby were among the four who lost their lives after the boat they were travelling in capsized near Sirongo beach in Siaya County.

A Form Three student of Gobei Secondary School was the fourth victim in the incident.

According to Nyang’oma assistant chief Michael Osare, the deceased were sailing in a canoe along with four other relatives who were rescued by fishermen in the incident.
