Monday 26th June, 2017 Declared Public Holiday to Celebrate Idd Ul Fitr

Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has declared Monday, June 26, 2017, a public holiday.

Through a gazette notice published on Tuesday, the CS directed that the day is observed a holiday to celebrate the Idd Ul Fitr.

“It is notified the general information that Monday 26th June, 2017 will be observed a public holiday to mark Idd ul Fitr Day pursuant to section 3 of the Public Holidays Act,” the Notice read.

This followed the advice of Chief Kadhi Sheikh Al-Muhdhar A.S Hussein who wrote to Head of Public Service Joseph kinyua urging the day to be gazetted early enough.

“I will be very grateful if arrangement will be made for the gazettement of the holiday so that Kenyans could have this information early enough,” Hussein's letter read.

The holy month of Ramadhan commenced on May 27 and is expected to end on June 25, therefore, the Idd Ul Fitr holiday will fall on June 26.
