Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has accused his rivals in the 2017 Governor race of being behind the increased criminal activities by gangs in Nairobi's Eastlands region.
Governor Kidero observed that the City has witnessed an upsurge of the criminal groups and extortionists in the recent few months.
In particular, he cited Kayole and Komarock which are under the tyranny of the criminal gang that identifies itself as Gaza.
He asserted that his administration had managed to curb crime rates, however, his opponents had undone his work by supporting the gangsters.
"We had managed to do away with the gangs but now they are back," Dr Kidero asserted.
Speaking during a meeting with the Kenya Alliance of Resident Associations (KARA), Governor Kidero added that a group of extortionists were also oppressing matatu operators.
"There is an emergence of more organised criminals who are extorting cash from Matatu operators and I believe they have the backing of some politicians in the city.
"They are targeting mini buses which make up a large percentage of the transport sector," Kidero accused.

Avoiding to mention names, he accused the same politicians of campaigning at night, asking the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to clamp down on them.
"Buying supporters alcohol and other drugs during night campaigns compromises security within the city and I am urging the polls body not to allow campaigns beyond 6pm," he concluded.
