Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo Says Oburu Odinga Forced Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba Out of ODM

Trouble is brewing in Opposition Chief Raila Odinga's family after his cousin, Gem Member of Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo, stated that Raila's elder brother Oburu Odinga was the reason why top politicians were leaving the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

His sentiments were prompted by Oburu's confession on Wednesday that he (Oburu) rigged the 2013 ODM primaries in Gem in Midiwo's favour.

Midiwo responded by saying that those sentiments vindicated Oburu of forcing leaders out of ODM as had been earlier claimed.

"The admission shows he (Oburu) was responsible for the recent rigged nominations.

"I will still recapture the seat despite Oburu's opposition. Voters will separate the wheat from the chaff come August 8," Midiwo was quoted by a local daily.

He added that Oburu was responsible for the exit of Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba and his Funyula counterpart Paul Otuoma from ODM.

Oburu on Wednesday admitted that he colluded with other party officials to influence the elections in favour of Midiwo.

He claimed that Midiwo had been beaten by current Gem ODM parliamentary candidate Elisha Odhiambo, but the MP was eventually given the ticket to vie for the seat.

Speaking during a rally in the constituency, Oburu urged Midiwo to quit the August race assuring that he would not win the seat as an independent candidate.

"The National Assembly deputy minority leader’s chances of recapturing the seat are nil.

"Jakoyo should forget about recapturing his seat since he has fallen out with ODM party," he was quoted by the Star.
