Tetu MP Ndung'u Gethenji Records Statement After Being Threatened Against Attending President Uhuru Kenyatta's Rallies

Tetu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndung'u Gethenji claims to have received a strange call regarding the ongoing tour of President Uhuru Kenyatta in Nyeri County.

Gethenji, who will defend his seat as an independent candidate after losing in the Jubilee Party nominations, on Thursday revealed that he was called by an unknown number warning not to attend the President's rallies as he traverses the various constituencies in the county.

The MP claimed that during the talk that lasted less than two minutes, the caller who identified himself as Nyeri County Commissioner Julius Karuku, asked him to stay away from Kenyatta's functions.

According to Gethenji, the caller told him that as an independent candidate, he had no business attending Jubilee Party functions such as the President's visit.

He added that the said Commissioner went ahead to threaten him telling him that if he attended the President's rallies, he would be treated as an enemy of the State.

The MP has now recorded a statement at the Nyeri Police Station where he criticised the leaders who have been fueling the rift between the independent candidates and the Jubilee nominees.

Independent candidates have recently been engaged in a tussle with their Jubilee counterparts who have accused them of abandoning the party.

On Wednesday, a physical altercation was witnessed at the Blue Post Hotel in Thika where various leaders had converged ahead of Kenyatta's tour of Murang'a county.

A section of Jubilee aspirants called for the eviction of Murang'a Senator Kembi Gitura who is seeking to defend his seat independently and Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia.
