President Uhuru Kenyatta Fails to Endorse Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi for Governor Race

President Uhuru Kenyatta seemingly abandoned Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi failing to endorse him for the gubernatorial seat.

Kenyatta while touring the County on Friday distanced himself from Meru politics, leaving his ally and Jubilee's candidate to fight his political battles alone.

The Head of State was speaking at a campaign rally where he disclosed that he was keen on ensuring that he does not lose any vote in the region that voted overwhelmingly for him in 2013.

The President shied away from endorsing Murungi stating that he cannot risk losing votes from the region.

“I won’t lie to you; I know the reality on the ground; some of you will vote for Munya. I don’t want to lose the votes of Meru people because of my allegiance to one of the Meru County gubernatorial candidates,” he stated.

Kenyatta has been rallying his supporters to vote for Jubilee party candidates in the different counties he has been traversing.

However, he adopted a different approach in Meru where the gubernatorial race between the Senator and incumbent Peter Munya has left party supporters deeply divided.

Prior to the President's tour, Murungi had warned Munya not to attend the Jubilee rallies.

The Governor who is the Party of National Unity (PNU) candidate did not attend the event.

The region has been warming up to the opposition with Munya and Igembe South legislator Mithika Linturi warning Jubilee not to take recent visits by the Opposition to the area for granted.
