NASA to Abolish KCPE If They Win the August 8 election

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has vowed to abolish the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) if they win the August 8 election.

In its manifesto, the Opposition coalition stated that this move will help ensure that each child in Kenya goes to secondary school.

The Opposition further highlighted that the removal of the Standard Eight examination would help curb the high secondary school dropout rate.

"The culture and terminology of ‘failures’ and ‘dropout’ will be a thing of the past. No child should be condemned to this stigma by an examination whose only purpose is to eliminate those who it does not have school places for," the manifesto read.

NASA also promised to expand secondary school infrastructure in the next five years to close the gap between primary school leavers and those joining Form One.

They further stated they would pursue innovative ways of financing higher education infrastructure, including public-private partnership and education bonds.

The coalition stated it would expand disbursement of higher education loans to cover all post-secondary institutions.

The Opposition led by Flag bearer Raila Odinga on Tuesday evening launched their 2017 manifesto at the Ngong Racecourse in Nairobi.

The NASA manifesto has grouped its priorities under five main pledges it plans to work on if elected in the August elections.
