Police Engage in Shootout With Gangsters in Nairobi CBD

A pedestrian was shot along Latema Road in Nairobi after he was caught up in a crossfire between police and suspected robbers on Tuesday evening.

Police officers, who were on patrol along Moi Avenue, spotted a motorcycle with four passengers and trailed it to Latema Road where they ordered them to stop.

The suspects defied the order before one of them pulled out a gun and started shooting at the police, as his accomplices scattered in different directions.

Three of the suspects were nabbed before they could vanish from the scene while the firearm holder managed to escape.

In the ensuing melee, a bystander was shot by the gangster and was quickly rushed to Kenyatta Hospital where he is said to be in stable condition.

The incident came just hours after four suspected thugs were shot dead by police after committing a robbery in Nairobi's Karen estate on Tuesday morning.

Confirming the incident, police said that the gang was gunned down after stealing a car from Kayole estate.

An AK-47 rifle with 8 bullets was recovered from the gangsters.

A mobile phone allegedly stolen from a man in Kayole was also recovered.

Police disclosed that the suspects were planning another robbery when they were intercepted and gunned down.

The thugs are believed to be behind a series of robberies targeting homesteads in Karen.
