Why President Uhuru Kenyatta Could Miss 2017 Presidential Debates

New details have emerged indicating that President Uhuru Kenyatta may not attend the presidential debates set for next month.

A source close the President revealed to the Nation that organisers of the event were yet to formally invite Kenyatta to the debate slated for July 10.

The President's diary is also reportedly filled up until the election date set for August 8.

"The Jubilee Presidential candidate or his official representative have yet to get an invite to plan or participate in the planning of the debate.

"The Presidential campaign schedule is already drawn till the last day of campaigns, no consultations on dates and venue of the debate have been revealed," the source stated.

The source faulted the event organizers, stating that they lacked proper organization skills to plan and conduct an effective debate.

"Sometimes we think it's a media debate being planned between top editors of media houses or the best political reporters on the issues of the day and not a presidential debate," the Nation reported.

Last month, media houses announced that they would jointly host two presidential debates in July for all aspirants running for the presidency.

The debates are set to be held on July 10 and 24th at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. All the debates are scheduled to kick off at 7.30pm.

This year's debate will be different as presidential running mates will also have their own debate on the 17th of July.
