Six men and four women were yesterday arrested after holding an illegal meeting in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
The 10, who are Bunge la Mwananchi officials, were booked at the Central Police Station under charges of committing treason.
The Kenyan Penal Code states: "Any person who, owing allegiance to the Republic, in Kenya or elsewhere compasses, imagines, invents, devises or intends the overthrow by unlawful means of the Government is guilty of the offence of treason and shall be sentenced to death."
Central OCPD Robinson Thuku had banned political group discussions in the city centre a week ago, citing that they were causing tension within the county and interfering with business in the CBD.

The tenth official, Mr Nicholas David Kimanzi, told journalists that the police had roughed him up as he tried to negotiate for the release of the associates.
"The officer beat me up and I have since sought medical attention, I had gone to the station to seek the release of my colleagues," he narrated.
