Clifford Mwallo an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominee for Kajulu ward in Kisumu County has been reported missing.
Mr Mwallo's wife Elizabeth Odhiambo confirmed the incident stating that she filed a missing person report at Kisumu Central Police Station and that the matter was being investigated.
According to Mrs Odhiambo, she last communicated with her husband on June 5, when he was about to board a plane at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on the way to China to collect campaign material.
"I took him to the Kisumu International airport and saw him off.
"He later communicated to me when he was boarding headed to Dubai where he was to connect another flight to China. We never heard of him since then," she stated.
Mrs Odhiambo stated that the immigration department had confirmed Mwallo reached Dubai and that they were currently following up leads to determine whether he reached China.
She noted that her husband was to stay in China for only a week and that the prolonged stay and silence were causing panic to family and friends of the politician.
"It is unlike him to go silent on me or the family. He should have communicated by now. We thought he might have extended by some days or a week owing to the rigorous primaries, but when it is now close to a month then it’s worrying and that is why we have reported to the authorities," she said.
Mrs Odhiambo is now appealing to the government to help locate her missing husband.
