Likoni Constituency Likely to Experience Violence During August Election, IEBC Reveals

Likoni Constituency is one of the areas likely to experience violence during the upcoming elections, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has indicated.

IEBC official Julius Karimi termed the area as a violence hotspot that is characterised by gangs and threats from all corners.

"The area has been characterised by threats and gangs that have been instilling fear in residents.

"Elections are a few days away and we would like Kenyans to prepare for what might happen. People have severally been robbed in Likoni, which is a bad sign."

He was speaking during a forum at the Likoni Social Hall over the weekend.

Karimi further called on locals to maintain peace during the elections and urged security agencies to increase patrols and deal with criminal gangs.

The latest threat is circulation of leaflets by unknown people warning non-locals of dire consequences if they don't leave before the elections.

Police are yet to arrest any suspects over the leaflets and last week, security officials met various aspirants to discuss how best to manage security in the sub-county.

Likoni deputy county commissioner Erick Wamulevu concurred the area is one of the violence hotspots in the county.

"Likoni has been mapped out as one of the violence hotspots but we all need to ensure there will be no violence," he remarked.
