NASA's Raila Odinga Reveals His Plan for SGR Project

National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has stated that he will extend the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) line to Kampala, Uganda if he ascends to power after the 2017 General Election.

Speaking on Tuesday morning, the Opposition leader maintained that the project was an initiative of the Grand Coalition government as part of Vision 2030 and not the Jubilee administration.

In light of that claim, Mr Odinga explained that the initial plan was to have the line proceed from Nairobi to Kisumu and Malaba then cross the border into Rwanda, ending in Burundi's capital, Bujumbura.

He added that President Uhuru Kenyatta's team had made a joke out of the initial plan for the railway project by making it end at Naivasha as an Inland Container Terminal.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader asserted that the plan to end the railway line at Naivasha was a corrupt plan to enrich the Kenyatta family whom he accused of owning the land on which the Naivasha line would pass through.

"We already have an inland terminal in Nairobi. We had planned for Phase I to end at Mombasa and Phase II to end in Bujumbura but the Jubilee administration has not executed this.

"That is why I say that Jubilee does projects without careful thought, they are opportunistic. For example, putting a terminal in Naivasha benefits an individual and I would like President Kenyatta to deny that the land in Naivasha does not belong to his family," Mr Odinga accused during an interview with Radio Maisha.

The former Prime Minister also claimed to be the brains behind projects that are yet to be executed such as the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor road project and the Special Economic Zones Program.
