Former Keiyo South MP and veteran politician Nicholas Kipyator Biwott died on Tuesday with emerging details indicating he had already passed on by the time he was taken to Nairobi Hospital.
According to sources, the late Biwott took breakfast as usual on Tuesday morning and said he wanted to go to hospital.
Before leaving the house, he is said to have collapsed and on being rushed to the medical facility, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Members of his family stated that the National Vision Party (NVP) leader had, over the last few months, been in and out of hospital, both locally and abroad.
The news of his death was broken by his long-serving aide, William Chebkutt, and later confirmed by Mr Biwott’s daughter, Esther Koimett.
“We confirm that he is rested. Further information will be given once the family meets,” Ms Koimett said, but she did not disclose the ailment that he suffered from.
Residents of his rural village in Keiyo South described him as a true leader who had the interests of his constituents at heart and often maintained a low profile.
“Even in sickness, he was still ready to listen to our issues,” said Kenneth Kipket, a neighbour.
Security was tight at his rural home with only close family members being let in by police officers from the nearby Kaptagat Police Station.
Journalists were instructed not to interview anyone until they got official communication from family members.
