Unlicensed Open Cooking in Nairobi Banned

Nairobi County government has banned all unlicensed open cooking in the Capital after reports of suspected Cholera outbreak.

Speaking to the press on Saturday, County Executive in charge of Health Dr Benard Muia noted that these open cooking places would be shut down.

At the same time, Dr Muia confirmed that three had already lost their lives from Cholera.

Meanwhile, 33 people are hospitalised in various health facilities in Nairobi after they were diagnosed with the deadly disease.

According to Muia, 96 cases have been confirmed in the city in the past two months.

On Friday, Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich, Trade CS Adan Mohammed and his Principal Secretary Chris Kiptoo were among 50 people who were treated for cholera-related symptoms.

This was after eating food served during a trade event at the KICC held between Monday and Wednesday.

"Nobody knows where that food has come from, who has prepared it, whether they were medically fit and they just serve it to people," Director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko stated.

Four individuals from the KICC suspected cases are still admitted.
