6 Suspected Gangsters Shot in Nairobi's Industrial Area

  • Six suspected gangsters were yesterday shot dead by police in a botched robbery at a godown in Nairobi's Industrial Area.

The six, who were armed with a pistol, crowbars and other crude weapons, were gunned down shortly after gaining entry into the business premises along Dunga Road at around 1.40am.

Confirming the incident, Nairobi DCI chief Ireri Kamwende said other suspects who were part of the gang managed to escape on foot.

Police officers, who were apparently acting on a tip off, had laid a trap inside the building that was raided by the gang.

The officers are said to have opened fire indiscriminately at the suspects as they attempted to flee from the compound upon realising they had been trapped.

Robbery incidents have been on the rise in the city with a number of them being foiled by police.

On July 5, three people died after two rival gangs clashed in Nairobi's Mathare Estate.

The gangs comprised of young men in their early 20s and it is believed that they quarrelled over a deal that went sour.

On June 27, four suspected thugs were shot dead by police after committing a robbery at Karen estate in Nairobi.

According to police, the gang was gunned down after stealing a car from Kayole estate in Nairobi.

An AK-47 rifle with 8 bullets was recovered from the gangsters.
