IEBC to Work with Mobile Network Providers in Transmitting August Election Results

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO Ezra Chiloba has stated that the Commission will work with mobile network providers to relay August 8 election results.

Chiloba noted that the success of results transmission would depend on the availability of network coverage adding that the Commission would engage all network providers.

He further stated that they would use satellites in areas with poor networks.

The CEO further stated that if the network in polling stations is not strong enough, the body would look for the nearest area with proper network coverage.

The electoral body also announced it would publish the list of polling stations to be used on August 8 by the end of the week.

On Monday, IEBC announced plans to close down polling stations in areas earmarked as violence hotspots ahead of the 2017 General Election.

The electoral commission stated they would move the polling stations from the volatile regions to safer areas to allow voters to cast their ballots in a safer environment.

Counties that are scheduled to be affected by the new decision include: Nairobi, Kiambu, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Turkana, Baringo, Laikipia, Kwale Kisii, Migori, Siaya, Bungoma, Kericho, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Bomet, Narok, Bomet, Meru, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kisumu, Samburu, West Pokot, Isiolo and Marsabit.
