National Super Alliance (NASA) presidential candidate Raila Odinga has sensationally claimed that acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i will be used to rig elections in favour of incumbent President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Odinga made the claims on Tuesday during a rally in Kibra where he alleged that Dr Matiang'i would do so under the pretext of security.
"Matiang'i is the Jubilee point man in Nyamira and we will not allow him to interfere with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) as we know he is working on behalf of Jubilee.
"He should make a choice whether he is a Jubilee political player or a public servant," he stated.
President Kenyatta appointed Matiang'i, who is the Education Cabinet Secretary, to the Interior Ministry on acting capacity following the death of Joseph Nkaissery.
The Head of State explained that he made the quick decision to ensure there was no vacuum in the management of the country’s security.
The Ministry of Interior is charged with mandates including; National Government coordination at counties, Internal State functions, Training of Security Personnel, Disasters and Emergency Response Coordination among others.
Provision of security during the General Election also falls under its umbrella and this could be why members of the Opposition are a worried lot as they believe police will be used to rig or block them from areas where rigging will take place.
Despite all Cabinet Secretaries being warned against taking part in politics, a number of them have publicly declared support for their preferred Presidential candidates.
Matiang'i, in particular, backed Uhuru recently saying his victory would go a long way in helping him achieve his targets at the Ministry of Education.
