Kenyans Demand Closure of Weston Hotel After Shutting Down of San Valencia and Jacaranda

Kenyans have demanded the closure of the Weston Hotel which is linked to Deputy President William Ruto.

This is after the government announced the indefinite closure of two top city hotels in the wake of a cholera outbreak.

Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu on Wednesday announced that Jacaranda hotel and San Valencia restaurant in Nairobi had been shut indefinitely.

The two are said to have offered catering services at events attended by participants who were later hospitalised after developing cholera-related symptoms.

The minister said the two establishments will not be allowed to operate until their staff are certified to be free of cholera.

This announcement evoked reactions from Kenyans who questioned why Weston had not been shut down yet it was among the first places where cases of cholera in Nairobi were reported.

Some said the hotel was not closed due to its links with the DP, while others termed it the highest level of impunity.

Ministry of Health officials are on the spot over what appears to be a deliberate attempt to cover up a cholera outbreak at Weston last week.

Director of Medical Services Jack Kioko failed to give a scheduled update on the outbreak, saying he was yet to get “comprehensive” laboratory results on the disease which broke out after guests attending an international health conference at Weston were served lunch last week.
