ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani's Statement on Deployment of Military in Opposition Strongholds

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Agnes Zani on Friday delivered a statement accusing President Uhuru Kenyatta of the unlawful deployment of military troops in Opposition strongholds.

Dr Zani declared that the troops were being deployed to the regions to suppress voter turn-out, condemning the act as an infringement on the democratic rights of all Kenyans.

"We have in our possession details of the preparation of troops from the Lanet and Gilgil units to be unleashed on citizens in Kisii, Migori and Homa Bay," the Secretary General stated.

According to Dr Zani, soldiers from the Nakuru units were to be posted to Kisumu, Siaya, Bungoma and Kakamega.

The ODM party further faulted the President for flouting the laws of the land and violating democracy.

"We are appalled that the Jubilee administration is proceeding with plans to deploy the military internally without the mandatory authorization.

"The plan, if it comes to pass, will have the undesirable effect of dividing our military along ethnic lines with regrettable consequences for this country," Zani warned.

She challenged President Kenyatta to come clean on the claims and clarify the alleged plan.

ODM party leader Raila Odinga on Thursday stated that the Jubilee Party had allegedly enlisted 42 police officers to rig the August Elections.

The Opposition leader alleged that the officers had been picked from the various police formations including GSU, Kenya Airport Police Unit, Traffic, Dog Unit as well as the National Intelligence Service.

The NASA team went ahead to demand answers from the Inspector General of Police.
