Court to Rule on Hassan Joho's Certificate Case on September 28

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho's re-election bid has been boosted following a decision by the High Court.

The Mombasa Court, on Friday, postponed the ruling of a case where Joho is accused of forging his academic documents which would have been an impediment to his bid.

The determination of the case was set for September 28 which is close the two months after the August 8 General Election.

Joho who has been surviving on temporary orders against his arrest will on that day know whether he will be apprehended and prosecuted for the alleged offence.

During the hearing of the case, the ODM deputy leader's legal team led by Siaya Senator James Orengo dismissed the accusations noting that they were meant to disqualify him from the August race.

The team further claimed Joho's accuser, Janet Mbete was not interested in the alleged forgery but planned to block his bid.

“Janet Mbete does not want Joho punished for the alleged forgery. She wants him declared unqualified thus barred from defending his seat," submitted Orengo.

However, Senior Assistant DPP Alexander Muteti noted that the case was genuine since the Governor had already been cleared by the IEBC.

He maintained that there was no ulterior motive for the investigations adding that they would decide whether to charge Joho upon receiving his file from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations which is probing the matter.

In May, the Governor moved to court to block his prosecution after the government began investigations into claims that he used a forged KCSE certificate to gain entry into the university.
