Samburu Nurses Threaten to Vote Out President Uhuru Kenyatta

Nurses from Samburu county have abandoned President Uhuru Kenyatta and threatened to withdraw their support as the August General Election approaches.

Speaking during demonstrations held on Saturday morning, the nurses warned that they would vote out Kenyatta if he fails to address the ongoing strike.

The health workers accused the government of failing to prioritise the industrial action which has paralysed operations in public hospitals.

Led by County Organising Secretary James Longonjine, the nurses demanded that the Head of State suspends his campaigns and ensure their Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is signed and implemented.

“What is a priority to them is their campaigns and we are telling them come August 8th, if they are not going to solve this we are going to show you the way," stated Longonjine.

The group called on President Kenyatta to intervene and have the CBA signed to enable residents of the area access medical services.

Last week, The National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK) threatened to jeopardise Kenyatta's re-election if the issue of the salaries is not solved by election day.

"So as you go on with the campaign, do not for one moment think nurses' votes are not important. We have elections in August and we have 40,000 nurses and the winner needs 50 percent votes plus one. Our numbers cannot be ignored,” warned NNAK Chairman Alfred Obengo
