Seven police officers accused of attacking and robbing a Chinese contractor Sh2.7 Million will remain in police custody for two more days as investigations into the incident continue.
The officers based at different stations in Limuru, Lari and Kikuyu were detained after being arraigned in court on Monday morning having been arrested on Sunday.
According to court submissions, the suspects accosted Wuwei Dun on Friday along the along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway where they violently robbed him of Sh2.7 Million, a mobile phone, passport and car keys.
The officers were identified as Simon Mwandiki, Kennedy Kobia, Maurice Odhiambo, Isaiah Kimani, Eunice Wanjiru, Janet Cheptoo and Ezra Bett.
The seven could face robbery with violence charges an offence punishable by death sentence in Kenya.
Initial investigations showed that one officer, who is attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Chepalungu, was found in possession of Sh100,000 and a white saloon car that was used in the robbery.
A senior female officer attached to the Central DCI office was also found with Sh95,000 when she was arrested at her Shauri Moyo residence.
Police found the third officer also attached to the Central DCI with Sh100,000 at his Gachie home having already spent Sh50,000 of the shared loot.
The fourth officer, who is a constable at the Kikuyu DCI, was found with Sh150,000 at his Kilimani Police line residence.
