IEBC to Transmit Election Results to All Media Houses and Commission's Website

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Tuesday guaranteed all media houses a direct feed of the 2017 General Election results.

IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba stated that the results will be relayed directly to all local and foreign media managers, editors, producers and technical teams.

Mr Chiloba added that the results would also be available for Kenyans to access on the IEBC website.

The IEBC boss, however, conveyed that the commission would not announce any constituency results at the national tallying centre, meaning returning officers will have the final say.

"Results will be declared based on physical forms though and we do not expect any variances between the forms and the electronic data," Chiloba clarified.

He added that he did not expect there to be delays as Returning Officers will not have to travel to the national tallying centre.

Chiloba conveyed that 338 tallying centres in the country have already been set up with a stable internet connection to increase efficiency.

Speaking to journalists at the Bomas of Kenya, the CEO assured that the Kenya Integrated Election Management System (KIEMS) would curb the risk of rigging.

"Given the design of this kit, it will be very difficult to stuff ballots. We've built in a system for ballot reconciliation," he assured.

In the event of a biometric voter identification fail, the presiding officer, returning officer and head of ICT would come up with a final decision.
