President Uhuru Kenyatta Spends Sh500 Million to Win Majority in Parliament

President Uhuru Kenyatta has dished out nearly Sh500 Million to Jubilee candidates in a bid to garner a majority of the parliamentary seats, the Jubilee leadership has revealed.

On Wednesday, Jubilee Vice chairman David Murathe confirmed that the party had given out financial support to candidates in swing and opposition regions.

“We have our candidates’ support mechanism in which we are boosting out strong candidates in some regions

“We are not doing that for every candidate, but for select ones whom we think have high chances of being elected in battle grounds and opposition strongholds,” he told a local daily.

Among those benefitting from the party’s support are 261 Parliamentary aspirants, 42 for Governorship and 45 Senatorial candidates.

Those vying for the governorship and senator seats are given Sh5 million, while parliamentary and county assembly representatives receive Sh2 Million and Sh500,000 respectively to boost their campaigns.

To strengthen the Party’s presence at the grassroots, Jubilee candidates are also equipped with banners, T-shirts, caps and scarfs to give to the people.

It is alleged that Uhuru used proxies to donate Sh5 Million to Jubilee’s Mombasa Governor candidate Suleiman Shahbal during a campaign fundraiser.

Other candidates getting massive Jubilee financing are in Nyanza, Kisii, Nyamira, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Taita Taveta, Kajiado and Narok Counties.
