TSC Creates Senior Master/Mistress Position in Kenyan High Schools and Tertiary Institutions

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has created a new administrative position in all public post-primary institutions to assist in the smooth transition into the new curriculum.

The Senior Master/Mistress will be a teacher responsible for supervision of curriculum implementation within a department in secondary and mid-level colleges.

TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia conveyed the process of appointing teachers to this position is already underway in the counties.

In a circular to TSC county directors, senior county staff were instructed to supervise the appointments and submit the names by August 4.

Prime candidates who will be considered for the position are teachers who were upgraded to Senior Teacher status after the implementation of the teachers' Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

These are all primary school teachers who were previously in Job Group "K" or higher and do not presently have any administrative duties in the schools.

According to Mrs Macharia, teachers in post-primary institutions within Job Group "M" will also be eligible for the new appointments.

A candidate who will be considered for the position must also be a qualified graduate, approved teacher, technical teacher or lecturer employed by the TSC.
